This is my favorite all-purpose cleaning spray. It is so versatile, easy to make, and inexpensive. I use it to clean everything from counters and hard surface to the fruits and vegetables that we eat. The best part about this vinegar cleaning spray is that you don’t have to worry about all the additives and harsh chemicals that you find in store bought cleaners.
This vinegar cleaning spray is considered a non-toxic cleaner since white vinegar is a natural product that we use and consume in cooking and salad dressings. It’s great for families with younger children and people with animals. You don’t have to worry about your child accidentally spraying it on themselves or your animals getting into it. I still store the spray bottle in a safe place, but if I forget and leave it out on the table after using it, I don’t have to panic if my 4 year old decides to “help” clean. There’s no harmful fumes, and she’s not going to develop a rash if she gets it on her hands.
The spray is also an antibacterial and antimicrobial. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant, so you can rest easy knowing that the area you cleaned has been sanitized. It also quickly breaks down most oily or dried substances. So instead of scrubbing and scraping at a spot, just let the spray sit for a few minutes and easily wipe it away!
This is especially useful for cleaning fruits and vegetables that have a film or residue on them, or even just sanitizing produce from everything that’s touched it before bringing it home. For items like berries, tomatoes, and cucumbers, I spray them with the vinegar cleaning spray right before we are going to eat them. This is because the vinegar can make the skins soft and decrease storage life. Simply spray, allow to sit for 2-3 minutes, rinse or wash well, and serve.
I use the same vinegar recipe in a larger ratio for our apples, oranges, lemons, etc. Allow them to soak in your sink for about 5 minutes then wash or rinse well and return to your refrigerator. This helps to remove the waxy film that covers these items, which is not healthy for you to eat.
This recipe is so useful! Here’s a list of the things I clean with this all-purpose vinegar cleaning spray:
- coffee table, side tables, and dining room table
- kitchen counters
- stove top
- refrigerator (inside & out)
- bathroom tub and counter top
- outside of toilet bowl
- any general spills on the floor (like soda or kool-aid)
I love this recipe and hope you will too. Once you try it, you’ll hardly ever buy an all-purpose cleaner from the store again!
All-Purpose Vinegar Cleaning Spray
- 1 spray bottle (I use a 32oz. garden spray bottle)
- 3/4 c. white vinegar
- 3-5 drops of dish liquid soap ( I use Dawn)
- warm water to fill
- Pour white vinegar into spray bottle.
- Add dish liquid soap.
- Fill spray bottle most of the way full with warm water.
- Gently shake to combine and use as needed.
Note: If using to remove hard water stains, build-up, or mineral deposits, then heat white vinegar in microwave for 30 seconds to a minute to activate it before pouring it in the spray bottle. This will increase its ability to break down the deposits. Also allow it to sit on the area for at least 5 minutes to remove it effectively. For spots around handles and hard to reach places, soak a paper towel or rag in the vinegar mixture, wrap around handle, allow to sit for 5-10 minutes, and wipe clean.
